There’s no denying the 1980’s were the decade of color and hair..lots and lots of hair! It was the decade of colorful creative expression. It wasn’t until the mid to late 80’s when I was allowed to start wearing makeup, however I served as my oldest sisters makeup doll before that. I love 80’s music, tv shows and movies so it was only natural I recreate the make up! One of the best things about recreating the 80’s, its all inexpensive! All the drugstores carry the colors no matter what’s in fashion.
Starting with an even canvas using Nars Foundation and Tarte shape tape, I used the Tarte Amazonian clay blush in feisty to give a slight contour. The key to 80’s cheeks is colorful blush so I didn’t want the contour color to show. For blush I generously applied the NYX ombre blush in code breaker. This color is so pigmented and gorgeous.
For my lids I combined the shades white and light pink from the Lorac propalette and applied it from the lid crease to the brow bone. Next is Maybelline’s shadow in teal. Careful to keep it from my brow bone I applied it from the crease to partially down my lid.
To accentuate the teal I applied the shade sunny from the Walmart generic palette only to the crease of my lids.
Separating my lid into 2 sections I applied NYX shade volatile on my lid from the center to the outer lid and around to my lash line to the same center point. From the center of my lid inward and around to the same center point I used the NYX ombre blush I used on my cheeks. Then using the Kat Von D eye contouring brush I buffed the colors so there were no harsh lines.
For a bit of drama I applied the Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil along the upper lash line and water line. Giving it a slight buffing on the outer corner and lid softened the drama. Using the Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow I shaped my brows y over drawing slightly and filling them in a little more than normal to give them the thick look. To highlight the brow bone and along the inner part of the brow line I used the little applicator that came with the Maybelline teal shadow and applied the nomad highlighter in midnight sun. With that finished I applied several coats of Maybelline pumped up mascara on my upper lashes and a light coat along my lower lashes.
I had purchased the NYX color mascara in blue to use for this look but preferred the dark dramatic look today. The blue is definitely an option though. For my lips I turnt it up more than a notch with the NYX Turnt Up! lipstick in privileged. This lipstick is so creamy and pigmented. The shade just bursts with good vibes!
It was fun going back in time with these shades. I can see myself using them in other looks. With my hair curled into spirals and teased up, I was a little disappointed in myself in my lack of height, The only thing missing was a hot colored scrunchy! I hope you enjoyed this moment of time travel and will see you tomorrow for a 24 karat day. As always remember to be creative and have fun!!!
